IC–039 | Hamas isn't Perfect - Rapes On 10/7 Change Nothing Transcript. Timestamps are stored-video seconds. [0:00] in Gaza has been diap. In contrast, this has been welcomed by the Palestinian [0:07] Authority [0:07] It's so psychotic, but also in a way, kind of comical, that like every single [0:15] time the [0:15] rest of the world, like Western leaders are like, "Hey man, you should probably [0:18] not kill so many [0:20] Palestinians, like what are we doing here?" Israel will be like, "I'll show you [0:23] , I'll show you." [0:25] Like, the world will be like, "Hey, you're really restricting a lot of aid from [0:29] going into [0:30] Palestinians, houses, like going into Gaza, like it's really fucked up." [0:36] Because we'll be like, "I'll show you, I'll fucking restrict even more aid. Ha [0:39] ha! Fuck you!" [0:41] And it's like ridiculous. They don't understand. They don't understand that [0:45] this is only further [0:46] negatively polarizing the rest of the world against them. They don't understand [0:50] it. [0:55] [silence] [1:04] I get that we want to be careful, given Israel's spreading mis-info and its use [1:07] of anything they push [1:08] inside, but it's sad to see first people just dismiss any non-first-hand [1:11] account out of hand. [1:12] First-hand accounts are always going to be rare for extreme sexual violence and [1:15] extreme [1:15] incident like this. It takes so much braver to come out. There's other credible [1:17] second-hand [1:18] circumcision evidence. We should maybe handle with more care and empathy. I [1:21] understand the [1:22] question, but still, yeah, I'm- there is- there is- there needs to be more [1:31] evidence conducted [1:35] in order to- in order to make a proper assertion of what happened, especially [1:42] as it pertains [1:44] to- especially as it pertains to sexual violence. [1:50] I would like for us to be at a place where saying maybe there were some sexual [1:52] violence [1:53] doesn't make you as honest. I mean, I say that, and I don't think it makes me a [1:57] Zionist. [1:58] I say that as well. [2:02] But if the- but if the conclusive evidence is coming from Zakah or the Israeli [2:09] government [2:09] or the Israeli police force claiming that they have a mountain of evidence- [2:16] because [2:16] remember, the Israeli police force said they had a mountain of evidence. [2:22] And then when questioned on it further said no ev- they had no evidence [2:28] whatsoever. [2:30] Like if all we can rely on is the word of the IDF, that's ridiculous. [2:36] There is, however, evidence. There is, however, real evidence as far as like [2:40] first-hand accounts [2:41] and testimony, even second-hand accounts and testimony from- from hostages. [2:47] So that part is real that- that- that did happen. [2:51] Which is very important, and that was a part of the UN investigation that was [2:55] conducted. [2:57] I've never discounted that, just like I've never discounted the likelihood that [3:05] sexual violence [3:06] did occur on October 7th and after. [3:10] How do you dismiss accounts of kerosene and burning, but not dismiss sexual [3:21] violence? [3:23] What do you mean? [3:25] I don't- I- because one- there is no evidence whatsoever for one. [3:30] It is completely and utterly made up. [3:32] But there is a likelihood for the other and also evidence as far as first-hand [3:36] testimony [3:37] from a hostage. [3:39] The fuck? [3:40] That's the difference. [3:46] *sigh* [4:02] Anyway, the problem, however, is that given the intensity and proclivity for [4:11] the Israeli state [4:12] to lie about things like this, and also other, like, non-professional forensic [4:19] accounting [4:20] being conducted on October 7th, this is muddied the waters so much that [4:27] understandably, [4:28] many people are like, "What the fuck? Why am I- how am I going to believe this? [4:31] How am I supposed to believe anything that Israel says?" [4:33] There's a perfectly valid fucking criticism to have against the state that has [4:37] lied every [4:38] single step of the fucking way. [4:40] Many hostages have records of saying two different things. [4:53] Also, how are you sure Israel didn't force them to lie? [4:56] That's ridiculous. [5:00] By the way, none of which justifies Israel's actions, so it doesn't even matter [5:06] . [5:07] None of this justifies that Palestinians have a right to dignity, a right to [5:13] emancipation, [5:14] a right to live fucking free lives, free from this occupation. [5:18] It doesn't matter. [5:19] It doesn't matter if fucking rapes happen on October 7th. [5:22] Like, that doesn't change the dynamic for me even this much. [5:26] So, that's the other part of this problem that many people can't contend with. [5:31] Like, the Palestinian resistance is not perfect. [5:35] They're not, like, so good. [5:37] They have magical bullets, and there's no criminal elements that could have [5:42] conducted [5:43] themselves very differently. [5:45] Like, that doesn't change the dynamic for me at all. [5:49] It's so fucking stupid to act like, "No, they're perfect. [5:53] They were perfect on October 7th." [5:55] And they were conducted themselves perfectly. [5:58] But these kinds of stories delegitimize Palestinian resistance? [6:02] No, it does not. [6:03] What the fuck are you talking about? [6:04] No, you think it delegitimize Palestinian resistance, okay? [6:09] You think so. [6:10] I don't. [6:11] The fuck? [6:25] You're correct. [6:34] And watch "Defreaks with Clippy Out of Context" and I'll call you pro rape. [6:37] Yeah, dude. [6:38] Sure. [6:39] It is ridiculous. [6:55] I've never -- I've never been a -- I've never had the mindset that, like, [7:14] victims of a [7:15] genocidal apartheid regime have to be perfect. [7:19] Although they have conducted themselves in perfectly peaceful ways, and we all [7:23] know what [7:23] happened in the Great March of Return. [7:25] So the idea that, like, Palestinians haven't tried that is also silly. [7:29] Okay. [7:33] Let's finish this off. [7:38] Let's finish this off. [7:39] In the Palestinian leadership, the Palestinian Authority said they welcome the [7:43] decision taken [7:44] today by Spain, Norway, and Ireland. [7:46] And they've explained that with this important step, these countries have [7:49] demonstrated their [7:50] firm commitment to the two-state solution and achieving long-awaited justice [7:55] for the [7:55] Palestinian people. [7:56] They think this moves, the Palestinians closer to full recognition, full state [8:00] hood accepted [8:02] by all the countries of the world. [8:04] But the response from Israel is that this damages Israel's security, undermines [8:08] Israel's [8:09] right to self-defense, and does not help the peace process in the long term. [8:13] And Dan, all of this comes as we're hearing that the United Nations has halted [8:18] food distribution [8:19] in Rafa due to shortages and hostilities. [8:23] Yeah, there's been a real difficulty getting aid into Gaza, whether that's over [8:28] the land crossings [8:29] or via the new maritime route that was opened up last week, when the U.S. [8:33] military put in [8:33] place this floating platform. [8:35] We know some aid shipments have been able to get in via the sea route and via [8:39] the land borders, [8:40] but then there's a problem of distributing it. [8:42] There's been a security issue. [8:44] Some aid shipments have been ransacked by desperate Palestinians trying to get [8:48] hold [8:48] of food supplies and medical treatment, and that's prompted the U.N. [8:52] to actually cease distribution. [8:54] We know that very little aid's been coming in through that floating platform, [8:58] despite the [8:58] huge amounts of money and the effort that was put into, put in that in place. [9:02] They've got to resolve the security situation, make sure they can fairly [9:06] distribute aid, [9:07] make sure that it gets to the people who really need it, that it isn't [9:11] intercepted and stolen. [9:13] So there is a real issue here. [9:15] The Israelis are being called on to ensure more humanitarian corridor safe [9:18] routes so that [9:20] aid workers can get around in Gaza safely, can do their work, can distribute [9:24] that aid, [9:25] and get it to the people who need it. [9:27] Okay, Dan Johnson, thank you very much for the moment, and of course you've got [9:31] plenty [9:31] more on that story. [9:32] On the BBC News website where we continue to run a live page with Russia. [9:37] We have a major development this morning related to the war in Gaza. [9:41] The three European governments, all U.S. allies say that they will recognize [9:45] the [9:46] Palestinian state next Tuesday. [9:48] Now, as you know, Palestinians have one of this for decades. [9:51] MTS Tyab is following this in East Jerusalem and has the latest on it. [9:55] MTS, this is a very big deal. [9:57] Can you help us understand the significance of this? [10:03] Yeah. [10:04] If having rapists in the neighborhood is enough to justify carpet bombing, [10:06] Israel's going to [10:07] rethink that non-extradition policy they have, Israel is also relatively [10:12] densely populated [10:13] with, you know, that sort of thing. [10:17] I don't know, I wouldn't be talking about this like... [10:23] Yeah, it's an enormous deal for these three European countries to do so. [10:26] And as you can imagine, Israel has reacted pretty furiously to the move by [10:30] these [10:31] countries and their decision to formally recognize a Palestinian state. [10:35] So angry that it's ordered back its ambassadors to Norway and Ireland and has [10:39] called the [10:40] plan, and I'm quoting here a distorted step as the fighting in Gaza rages on. [10:45] A warning now to our viewers, some of the images in this report are quite dist [10:49] ressing. [10:50] Today, Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognize the state of [10:58] Palestine. [10:59] Ireland's T-shirt, Simon Harris, may be announcing alongside the Spanish and [11:03] Norwegian prime [11:04] ministers. [11:05] The move is both rare and significant. [11:07] Wait, is this not good in terms of a one-state solution? [11:10] Dude, recognizing Palestinian statehood is not a bad thing. [11:15] Okay? [11:16] It doesn't mean that the conversation stops there. [11:18] It just means that there is another vector of pressure. [11:21] That's all this is. [11:23] Okay? [11:24] If it wasn't significant, America wouldn't be trying to desperately veto it at [11:28] the U.S. [11:29] Security Council and then voting against it when the U.S. [11:32] and the U.N. General Assembly votes for Palestinian statehood. [11:35] That's it.
